Common Myths About Getting Dental Implants

Posted on 3/27/2016 by Keith M. Cooper
A diagram of how a dental implant works.Dental implants are a great solution to tooth loss, and can replace one or more lost teeth effectively. However, there are many myths and misconceptions associated with these implants. These damage the reputation of a very helpful, wanted procedure. And the myths are everywhere.

Some of the most common of these make the difference between getting or not getting an implant, and it is important to know the truth.

The first myth is dental implants are essentially dentures. This is untrue. Dentures themselves hold a bad reputation, but both are great solutions to achieving a full, complete smile. Implants are different, and are individual false teeth that are held into gums with false roots, so they're much like natural teeth.

Another misconception is the implants look fake. Implants look very natural when made from porcelain. They aren't noticeable and resemble normal teeth very closely. They even feel like natural teeth and fit in the mouth as the normal teeth would.

Some people believe these implants are dangerous, often rejected, and are not worth it. However, with simple oral hygiene and dental care, they can be maintained and can even last up to a lifetime of use and wear.

Diseases and other issues can be easily avoided with this simple care. They are also not a lot of work. They require brushing and flossing like normal teeth, and foods and drinks are still the same and don't require limitations to certain foods.

Don't let lies and myths get in the way of getting an implant if one is necessary. An implant should not be a scary experience and should rather be an enjoyable, happy one.

Always check the facts and research thoroughly before getting an operation in order to get the truth behind it. Or even simply ask your doctor about possible risks or cons of getting an implant.
