Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

What Are Dental Crowns For?

Dental crowns is a versatile procedure that can be used to treat teeth in many different states. If you have a large cavity, sometimes the remaining tooth is not strong, even after being filled.

The crown can give the tooth a stronger structure. If you have cracked or chipped a tooth, a crown will protect the tooth and keep it together. Some reasons for getting a dental crown can be:

•  To help strengthen your tooth after a root canal
•  A method of securing a dental bridge to restore a missing tooth.
•  Cosmetic reasons

How Are Crowns Placed?

Before a crown can be placed, the tooth needs to be prepared. This can mean reducing the tooth if there is too much mass or adding to the tooth if it has been worn down to much. Once the preparation is done, a temporary crown is placed while your permanent crown is being made.

There is also technology that allows crowns to be made in one day. Once the crown has been created, the permanent crown is finally placed.
